Writing is driven from within, not from any exterior validation

“Does the world really need another blogger”? my mom asked me when I started posting on this medium blog about a year ago. The truth is no, the world doesn't need it, but maybe I need it. Perhaps over time this writing will lead me to do work that the world does need, but I don’t focus on that. I told myself from the very beginning, that if a post of mine helped or taught even one person, then that is good enough for me.

Any art or creative work.. You have to passionate about it.. Engaged by something that is important to you.. Not any exterior validation. “ ~Cheryl Strayed

Real conversations are the seed of great content

Working from home and being isolated with a current wave of corona, I've noticed I haven’t been talking much to people. Even my usual ‘phone calls’ to my extended family members on my way home from work is almost non-existent. My mind has become blank…

Conversations in my own head, and listening to friend’s thoughts and issues they are going through, always sparks ideas and help me formulate my own thoughts.

Quit perfection

Because I have a small following, there is really no external pressure for me to be anywhere near perfection. I try not to add any internal pressure either. I don’t have to have an amazing style or to be inventive. I do my best and hit publish. Perfection or thinking you have to be unique or say something new stops people from creating. Like with any learning curve, the first ~X you publish won’t be great, so overcoming this hurdle is crucial.

“Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But, since no one was listening, everything must be said again.” — André Gide

Fill your mind with books

Another way to fill up on ideas and thoughts is to read. When our mind is full, we then feel the need to spill and throw these ideas and our own thoughts from them onto a page. Fill your mind with books.

Its not a readers block, its a cue to go and read, fill up then go and speak again” ~Morgan Harper Nichols
