My Top 10 Netflix Recommendations
I don’t watch much TV. When I occasionally watch a show/film I want it to be a well acted, clean (as clean as it gets in 2020) and with some historical/educational value. Also it can’t be scary, violent or too tense. With those limitations :)- here are my personal Netflix picks:
TV Shows
1) The People v. O. J. Simpson
This show follows football star O.J Simpson’s 1994–5 famous murder trial. With it’s superb acting (Sarah Paulson OMG!) and fascinating true story this is a must watch.
2) Explained
Explained takes some of the most popular issues around today and explains them in a short ~15 min video. From the “Why Diets Fail”, “The Stock Market” to “Why women are Paid Less”. Fascinating!
3) The Crown
The crown is a historical drama following the life of Queen Elizabeth II from 1947 and until the early 21st century. (Yay princess Diana is appearing next season!) Although I never had the slightest interest in the British royal family, I love the historical aspect of it and it’s superb acting. I discovered it on my last maternity leave, and then finished the first two seasons in about… two days :)
4) Sugar Rush
I’m not all that familiar with cooking shows out there (I’m sure a lot of the other ones are fabulous as well). This one I happened to come across by accident. An american baking competition where each episode professional bakers compete for 10,000$. Their creations are larger than life…
5) The long Shot
A short 40 min documentary telling the interesting true story of a man arrested for a murder he did not commit. Well made.
6) The Devil Next Door
This five part documentary is about John Demjanjuk, a suspected Nazi extermination camp guard known as “Ivan the Terrible”. Thought provoking and with historical value and importance.
7) The Spy
This 6 episode drama tells the unbelievable true story of a famous heroic Israeli spy Eli Cohen. This show provides those who are less familiar a closer look into this incredible historical story.
8) Tiger King
The Tiger King seven part documentary on Netflix is unbelievable! This insane show follows “Tiger King”, a private zoo owner with a fetish for big tigers. Prepare to be shocked as the story unfolds.
Movies
9) The Dawn Wall
What makes someone take 6 years of their life to plan, prepare and ultimately free climb the Dawn wall at in Yosemite National Park? That’s what this intriguing documentary movie is about.
10) Spotlight
Based on a true story, this drama follows an investigative journalist unit team investigating cases of child sex abuse in the Boston area.
